Carl founded Mainland in 1990 with the help of a $5,000 loan, a tireless work ethic and a passion to succeed. Since that time, Carl has grown Mainland from a one-person company in Edmonton to a thriving organization in multiple cities with over 55 employees. Carl is passionate about always putting the client’s needs first, and this principle has shaped the client-focused culture that exists within Mainland today. Carl graduated from Devry Institute of Technology with a diploma in Electronic Engineering Technology. Today, he lives in Chestemere, Calgary, Alberta, with his wife and two sons.

Derek has over of 20 years of IT experience.  He began his career with IBM in 1989 and has held various positions in both large and small IT companies throughout Western Canada. Derek joined Mainland in 2000 and has worked in every aspect of the business including Sales, Professional Services and Operations. Derek holds an Engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan and lives in Calgary with his wife and three daughters.

Sean has over 18 years' experience working in the IT industry. In his previous role with a national IT systems integrator, Sean worked on a varied client portfolio: including government; oil and gas; financial services and engineering companies; designing and managing the implementation of specialized IT infrastructure solutions. Sean has his Bachelors of Economics and MBA from the University of Calgary. He is passionate about the role IT has in contributing to an organization's bottom line and works with clients to ensure their investment in technology meets their unique needs and helps provide a clear return on investment.

With 25 years of IT experience, Shaun brings a breadth of knowledge to his role, designing, implementing and managing complex infrastructures to assist his customers with their IT requirements. He currently leads Mainland's Managed Operations practice. Prior to joining Mainland, Shaun managed all IT Infrastructure, including desktop, telephony, data centre environment, ITSM and WAN/LAN, for a demanding e-Business with a team designed to leverage a mix of internal and managed resources. In addition, Shaun has held positions with several large and boutique IT consulting firms, delivering IT infrastructure management to customers in Western Canada and abroad. Shaun splits his time between Calgary and the East Kootenays with his wife and three children doing his best to balance family, work and fishing obligations.

Kyle manages all of the project-related employees at Mainland. He is responsible for project delivery, consistency and deliverables, while ensuring that our talented and super consultants are happy working at Mainland.

Kyle has run multiple technology practices over the last four years. Before doing that, he spent eight years managing and operating many enterprise environments. Kyle lives in Airdrie with his wife and two children and is actively involved in his kids’ sporting activities.

Ash has over 18 years of IT experience. He began his career with MVS and VM mainframes, moving on to UNIX and Windows systems, and then to the virtual data centre infrastructures of today. Ash’s employment through the years has been of increasingly progressive responsibilities, beginning with IT analyst/operational positions up to the managerial and technical leadership responsibilities he holds today. As Mainland’s Lead Solutions Architect, Ash uses his broad knowledge of IT infrastructures and attention to detail to provide Mainland’s customers with IT architecture strategies that are both creative and realistic. Ash holds a Computing Science Degree from the University of Alberta and lives in Calgary with two precocious daughters who constantly keep him on his toes.
